A journey into the Land of the Thunder Dragon

What Makes This ADVENTURE Different

Bhutan is no ordinary destination. It is the last Himalayan kingdom, a place where sacred tradition and wild landscapes remain intact.

On this Adventure, we go beyond the tourist trail, journeying deep into the Himalayas, spending time with villagers, and sitting in monasteries with Buddhist monks.

This is not just about seeing Bhutan. It is about experiencing stillness, learning presence, and reconnecting with what it means to live a truly aligned life.

CHALLENGE RATING: 3/5
OFF-the-map factor: 4/5

On this Adventure, we’ll be trekking deep into the Himalayas, to a remote village in the shadow of the world’s biggest mountain range.

We’ll spend lots of time on foot, with a few hikes of 4 to 6 hours per day, at elevations up to 12,000 feet. Strong fitness and advance training are recommended.

Our accommodations will be a mix of rustic and remote guest houses, Buddhist monasteries, and luxury lodges.

  • How physically demanding is this Adventure?
All Wayfinders Adventures are active, often more so than the average tour. Even our “lighter” experiences may include moderately long hikes or sustained activity. This scale will help you choose an experience that meets your current capacity - and stretches you just the right amount.

    • 1 – Active, but accessible
Expect up to 10–15 km of hiking per day on varied terrain. Suitable for anyone with basic fitness who enjoys long days outdoors.

    • 2 – Moderate challenge
Daily activity might include 15–20 km of hiking, moderate elevation gain, or sometimes sustained activity (6–8 hours). You’ll feel it, but it’s doable with preparation.

    • 3 – Strong challenge
More demanding terrain, higher elevations, or consecutive days of significant exertion. Good fitness and preparation are important.

    • 4 – Very demanding
Intense daily exertion, high altitude, or rugged conditions. Requires very good fitness and mental stamina.

    • 5 – Extreme challenge
Expedition-level demands, such as climbing a 20,000-foot volcano or multi-day treks at altitude. For fit, well-prepared adventurers only.

  • How familiar or unfamiliar will this experience feel?
Some Adventures take place in settings that feel comfortable and familiar, even luxurious. Others bring you into deeply rustic, remote, or culturally different environments (sometimes there’s a mix of both). Each has its magic - this scale helps you understand what kind of "edge" you’ll be walking.

    Level Descriptions:

    • 1 – Familiar & comfortable
Settings feel close to home for Western travelers. Think boutique lodges, reliable amenities, and creature comforts intact.

    • 2 – A touch of the wild
Still largely comfortable, but with occasional rustic or unusual moments: a remote lodge, an outdoor meal, or cultural immersion.

    • 3 – Rugged, but balanced
A mix of comfort and wilderness: perhaps tented camps, homestays, or limited amenities, combined with some familiar touchpoints.

    • 4 – Remote & rustic
Mostly unfamiliar environments: multi-day camping, minimal connectivity, unpredictable logistics. Comfort takes a back seat to immersion.

    • 5 – Deep wilderness / cultural edge
One of the most remote or unfamiliar experiences you’ll ever have: full immersion in wilderness or traditional ways of life, with little to no infrastructure, often rustic and raw. True adventure.

  • No experience is required, although reasonable physical fitness is a prerequisite. You should be able to hike for 5 to 7 hours at a moderate pace.

  • We are still awaiting the flight schedules into Paro, Bhutan for 2026, so the following schedule is tentative and may move forward or back by a day. We should know by October 2025.

    • Cancellations with less than 6 months’ notice: no refund*

*if you can find a suitable person to take your spot (subject to vetting by Mike), then you are welcome to transfer your spot and make your own financial arrangements with that person.

  • Because of the limited rooming available at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge, we will have no availability on Wayfinders: GBR for partners and kids.

If you are interested in bringing your partner and/or kids, please let us know and we’ll put you on a list for when we run a family event.

  • Giving our all to our kids is part of being a parent. But sacrificing our needs is not the ideal way to serve our families.

Taking time to take care of your own needs and desires, and getting clarity on those needs and desires, far outweighs the short-term impact of being away from your family for 10-12 days.

That said, we get it and no one said it was easy. But there’s a high likelihood you will come back a happier, clearer and more energized parent and/or spouse.

  • If you have already been in contact with Mike he will send you the booking link. If you have not been in contact, please submit a short application and he will reach out to schedule a call.
